GOLDEN BARREL – CONTEST FOR THE BEST HOMEMADE WINE

1. CONTESTS OBJECTIVES AND TASKS

The contest is convened to identify the best producers of domestic wine, to popularize folk traditions in preparation of homemade Moldovan wine, marking up consumption culture, having opportunity for exchanging information between producers of homemade wine.

2. ORGANIZING COMMITTEE
Works related to organization and evaluation of the contest results are carried out by the organizing committee (hereinafter referred to as organizing committee), its activity is provided by the           Regulations of contest.

The Organizing Committee composition includes a number of experts in winemaking, entrepreneurs, representatives of society and collaborators of the Chamber of Commerce.

The Organizing Committee composition is approved by the Executive Bureau of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova. Information about the composition of the organizing committee is published on the website of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova and in mass media.

The Organizing Committee performs the following functions:

–  dissemination of information about the contest;
–  organization of activities on contest preparation and its development;
–  accepting materials, samples from contest participants;
–  examine the received  materials, including organization of  wine tasting;
–  determines the contests winners, organizes the award ceremony.

Affiliates of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry form the Organizing Committees for contest performance in their areas. All Affiliates activities are performed according to the Regulations of contest.

3. CONTESTS PARTICIPANTS

In the contest may take part individuals from the Republic of Moldova engaged in the production of homemade wine; they are invited to participate in the contest. Participation in the contest is on voluntary  basis.

Natural (without additives) homemade wines of the past years or new wines from the present year are presented for the contest, indicating the name of the wine, year of manufacture, and the sort of grapes used in its preparation.

4. THE CONTEST PROCEDURE

The contest is planned on two stages:
The first stage is for February-March of the current year – appraisal of winners of the contest in the different regions of the country. All work at this stage is performed by the Organizing Committees of the respective areas with subsequent submission of materials and samples of the area winners to the Organizing Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The second contest stage – April of the same year – Determination of contest winners on the national level.  This stage is carried out by the Organizing Committee and by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Moldova.

6. SUBMISSION OF THE APPLICATION FORMS

Individuals willing to participate in the contest will submit application forms of the stated standard.

Applications for the contest are revised and accepted by the Organizing Committees of the Affiliates of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and by the contest Organizing Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova on the following address: (Chisinau, 151 Stefan cel Mare Blvd., telephone: 022 23 84 10, 21 07 25 e-mail: [email protected]).

The Application Form will include nomination and category to which the participation is planned, the samples of homemade wine, two bottles (0.7 vol.) of each denomination, properly packaged in labeled bottles.
Organizing Committees of the Affiliates submit to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova minutes of meetings of the Organizing Committees with information    of the first stage winners according to nominations and categories and product samples – two bottles (cap.0,7 L.) for participation in the second stage contest, should be sent to the Department of Business Events, Exhibitions and Fairs of the Chamber, telephone: 022 23 84 10/ 21 07 25, e-mail: [email protected].

7. AWARDING OF THE CONTEST PARTICIPANTS                                                                                     Quality assessment of the homemade wine is performed by the Organizing Committee.

Assessment of the submitted samples is performed according to ten-point system. Manufacturer anonymity is preserved. Results of the performed activities are drawn up via a special protocol signed by the members of the Organizing Committee.

8.  FUNDING
Funding of contest organization and development also winners awarding, is performed by the contributions of the organizers, partners and sponsors.

9. AWARDS OF THE CONTEST PARTICIPANTS

Winners of the first stage are awarded valuable gifts by the Organizing Committees of the Affiliates of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova.
The main contest award GRAND PRIX “Golden Barrel is awarded only to winners of the second stage contest.
The Organizing Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry assigns the winners of all categories. In all four nominations two GRAND PRIX are awarded, one in the category of white wine, the second – for category of red wine.
The Organizing Committee can also assign special awards for individual participants. All participants are awarded diplomas.
The Award ceremony for the winners is performed in a solemn event at the National Wine Festival.
